Thanksgiving

Wow! It's actually Thanksgiving time again. How can it possibly be the end of November already?

It feels like time has been getting by me a lot faster lately. I just realized that I haven't blogged in over a week and plenty of things have happened that I should have blogged about. So I'm wondering...do I comment on a long list of things...or just promise to be more attentive and blog more often?

I think I'll compromise and briefly comment on just a few things...

Dancing with the Stars season finale: Predictable

Quantum of Solace: Maybe the best James Bond movie I've ever seen (w/o Halle Berry)

Obama's new team: Interesting so far.

American Music Awards: Not a bad show this year. I love the red carpet for obvious reasons!

Having the 24 hr flu earlier this week: I think a picture says it all.

OK...I'm guessing those are all things that I would have blogged about over the past week...I may have left a few out...but I promise I'll be blogging daily.

Have a GREAT Thanksgiving...enjoy your family and friends...and we'll talk in the morning.

Bill

The Mean Picture

It's that time of the year when I sadly put away the shorts and t-shirts of summer and drag out the flannel shirts, thermal underwear, and trusty LL Bean winter boots.

While packing away a few things last night I stumbled upon another old photo. No...this is not another 80's picture of me sporting a mullet and Miami Vice wear...quite the opposite actually.

This is a picture of me from 1994 when I was a Basic Military Training Instructor (T.I.) at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, TX. Many of you know about my time in the USAF as a broadcaster with Armed Forces Radio & Television in Spain and Iceland...but very few know about this particular chapter.

It's something that I'm very proud of...but seldom talk about with anyone because it's usually not relevant to the majority of conversations. However, last night...on Veterans Day...I had a lengthy conversation with my oldest son about what I did as a T.I. and what I got out of my 7 years in the Air Force.

The conversation started when Jack saw this picture and said, "Ooooh I remember that picture from when I was 3 or 4. I never liked it...I always called it your mean picture because you look like you're going to yell at someone!"

After explaining that I did yell...a lot...I also told him stories about some of the funny things that happened, how I won Airman of the Year a couple of times, and about the pride that I got from training the brightest and best that our country has to offer.

It was a great conversation. What started out as a chore to get ready for winter, turned out to be the best hour of my day.

What is this world coming to?

As the mother of two, I preached for years to my kids about putting things up their noses.

Don't pick your nose, get a tissue.
Don't put that pencil up your nose!
NO!! THAT DOESN'T GO IN YOUR NOSE!!

Well, now it would seem that all my years of teaching and reinforcement have gone the way of the high button shoe. Have you seen (or heard of) this thing called a neti pot?

It looks like an oil lamp or something doesn't it? It's been described as a cross between Aladdin's lamp and Grandma's gravy boat. I would have to agree, although only in looks.

Do you know what this is used for??

You fill it with warm salty water and stick it up your nose!

That's right, I said up your nose. Ewww!

Apparently, the purpose of said pot, is to 'bathe' the sinuses. I can't imagine it! I've never heard something so ridiculous. But, apparently, I am not cutting edge to realize that this has been around for a long time!

There's even one that pulses for those hard core nasal bathers! It looks a little bit like the water pic that my Aunt Effie had in her bathroom for so many years. I couldn't begin to fathom sticking this up my nose and 'washing' the inside of my face with it!

Here is a video of someone using a neti pot.
Is it just me, or does this lady look surprised that she's about to stick this in her nose? What's up with her eyeballs??

Now, not only am I supposed to add this to my already hectic morning routine, but now I have to add some exercises to get all that water that shouldn't be up my nose out of there?

Come on! Give me a break already! I think I'll just stick to a box of kleenex and some vicks when I get a cold. Thanks anyway.

Rock on with your bad self,

H

VOTE

Barack Obama has won the first battle in the 2008 Presidential election...albeit a small one!

Results are in from the towns of Dixville Notch and Hart's Location, New Hampshire...and Obama has won there . The results in Dixville Notch are 15 votes for Barack Obama and 6 for John McCain. In Hart's Location, it's 17 for Obama and 10 for McCain.

What's the rest of the day hold for Obama and McCain? I can see it going either way. A majority of the polls have Obama leading at this point...but things have been tightening up over the past few days and could get a lot tighter before all of the polls close tonight.

I guess the bottom line is this...go vote. Exercise your right as an American and be a part of the process...no matter which candidate you support.

Freak Fest encounter...

At FreakFest last Saturday night we were in costume having a grand time! We laughed, took pictures and shook our money makers to Motor Booty Affair! That was awesome!

On my way out, I met a gentleman and his wife. Their names were Matt and Pam. Matt wanted to match the donation we were going to provide for the Barbara Bush Childrens Hospital and gave me his phone #. I told him that would be great! He wanted me to say something in particular on-air and I told him that I'd be unable to do that, but that I could blog about it.

Apparently he didn't enjoy Motor Booty Affair as much as the rest of us...
I gave his name and phone# to the PD here at the station and we tried to call him to see if he was serious about his donation. That's about a thousand bucks and something that the hospital could sure use!
We haven't heard from Matt as of yet, but we're still hoping. He said his wife listens every morning, and she reads the blogs. I hope he was right.

Rock on with your bad self,

P.S. ... And Matt, if you're reading this - Call me!

Argument?

So, today's Frankly Impossible Question was:

Q. In a relationship a woman is far more likely to do this on purpose... A. Start an argument

Now, Bill and I got into quite a tiff about it - as you probably heard - and I am standing by my words of this morning, that some people like to argue so much, they'd pay for a good argument.

Take this fellow for example.

Rock on with your bad self...
