A completely ridiculous thought...but what fun!
I've seen the movie Pinocchio. I know we all have a little cricket sitting on our shoulder advising us in matters of fancy vs. practicality. Sometimes we listen and sometimes we don't.
We all have dreams and aspirations, don't we? Weren't we told all through our growing up years that we could be what we wanted, have what we wanted, go wherever we wanted?
That wasn't the case for one of the top box office draws of the 1960's and 70's...Steve McQueen.
In my opinion, Steve McQueen is the quintessential bad ass. He is the absolute epitome of sex appeal. And it's not just to the ladies who would say so either! I am aware of many, many men who would agree with me that our blue-eyed friend Mr. McQueen is completely deserving of his nickname "The King of Cool".
Things weren't always as 'cool' as he made them look though. Bounced back and forth between his mother and her abusive husband, and his Uncle Claude - to a Junior boys home, to a gang of rebellious thugs, Steve's youth was far from encouraging.
He enlisted in the United States Marines Corps to be quickly promoted and then quickly demoted when he resumed his rebellious ways. He went AWOL for two weeks and ended up spending 41 days in the brig for his behaviour. He decided to embrace the ideals of the Marines and was honorably discharged in 1950.
He spent the 1950's doing various roles on stage, TV and small films. He also bought his first motorcycle, a used Harley Davidson (is there any other?) and started racing on weekends to earn extra money. He soon became a skilled racer and would eventually become recognized for performing many of his own stunts and for doing much of the driving during the high-speed chase scene in Bullitt. Which brings me to the entire point of this post.
The movie Bullitt.
Now, hold on. I know what you're going to say... The Magnificent Seven is a great film, and I agree! I love it! Another of my favorite Steve McQueen movies is The Great Escape (Do we need to point out that both of these movies have my other bad ass friend Charles Bronson - EGAD! Honestly, it doesn't get better than having these two guys in the same movie!).
But, I think my absolute favorite movie has got to be Bullitt. Simply for the car. I love the car. I am a bit of a motorhead (not a complete freak mind you) and have recently become attracted to the gorgeous new FORD MUSTANG - Special Edition BULLITT
This is where my cricket really starts chirping. I would LOVE to go down to the dealership and trade my car on one of these bad boys... OMG I couldn't imagine anything more fun. I already drive like a maniac, I can't being to tell you the trouble I could cause with this vehicle. Every time I see one, I utter a squeaky whine. I can't help it!
I know it isn't practical, the gas mileage would be insane, especially giving the way that I drive... but a girl has to have a dream doesn't she? The only thing that would make it any sweeter than having a car like this of my own, would be to have Steve McQueen give me some sweet driving lessons...
Rock on with your bad self,
H
